Letter to Bud Selig

As the Rangers lost a close one to the Oakland A's in 13 innings (of course that wouldn't have happened if Ron would have brought in Neftali sooner, but that's not what I'm writing about) there's still always a looming problem with the Rangers. No, it's not that their offensive stats rank the Rangers in the bottom half of the League but the whole mess that is Hicks Sports Group. If you've been living under a rock, or just never pay attention to professional baseball in this city; Long story short is that Hicks put the team up for sale. Chuck Greenberg put together a group of inverstors with Nolan Ryan to purchase the team from Tom Hicks. Tom Hick's creditors throw a wrench into the deal due to property disputes and now the Rangers are left in limbo.

So why am I writing a letter? Because there is a clause in Major League Baseball's Charter called the "best interest of the game" where MLB can claim ownership of the Rangers and push through the sale to Greenberg/Ryan. How can he do this? Well the "best interest" clause has been used before to push through sanctions with drug testing to try and put a band-aid on a severed limb. Now their still working on the drug policy, but it was in the "best interest" for MLB to act and move for public perception. What the clause will do in this situation is allow Bud Selig tell Hicks' creditors to f' off because the agreement isn't between Monarch Alternative Capital and MLB. So here it goes;

Dear Allen H. "Bud" Selig:

I am a resident of the Dallas/ Fort Worth metroplex, born and raised. Being that I have grown up in this area I have been a fan of all the professional, and minor league teams in the area. As I grew up playing just about every sport baseball has always been held close to the heart. Attending Rangers games at the old Arlington Stadium. Watching on of the greatest pitchers in major league baseball, Nolan Ryan, work the mound and frustrate batters. Seeing the All-Star game at the new Rangers Ballpark that opened in 1995. But with all the great memories we fans still remember all the bad. Things like all of theaverage, or losing baseball in the 80's, 90's and 2000's. Jose Conseco bouncing the ball bounce off his head. The strike in 1994 that cut the MLB season short. Through the good and the bad, the fans have been there.

Now in our time of need, we need Major League Baseball to step up to the plate (that saying kind of fits here) and stop the only man in sports who could give Al Davis a run for his money of being one of the worst franchise owners in professional sports. Please invoke the "best interest" clause to prevent Tom Hicks' creditors from railroading this deal with the Chuck Greenberg group. For once in our lifetime as a Rangers fan we feel like we actually have something to look forward to with new ownership/new blood in the organization. But the soul sucker of a man that is Tom Hicks has stood in the way and robbed all of us in truly being able to enjoy professional baseball in the metroplex. Please tell Monarch Alternative Capital where they can put their debts and then maybe give them all a golden pass to attend any baseball game they want as long as they have to wear a shirt that says "I tried to ruin baseball!"

This is a simple plea of help. I look forward to hearing your decision in the news
soon.

Sincerely,

The Tobra
